Obesity is increasing in Germany

Obesity is increasing in Germany: The Federal Statistical Office reports that more and more people in Germany have to be treated in a medical facility for obesity. From 2004 to 2008 the numbers rose by 11 percent.

The Federal Statistical Office reports that more and more people in Germany have to be treated in a medical facility for obesity. Women are more represented than men and in Saxony-Anhalt this is four times more common than in Berlin, for example.

In Germany, almost one in five people is now obese. One important reason can be seen in food intake, which often focuses on treated foods with a high fat content. Fresh foods, vegetables and fruits, are being consumed less and less. Another reason could be the lack of exercise on the part of many people. A lot of sitting at work is a serious factor. Naturopathy has long viewed the excessive amount of sitting at work, actually a step backwards into the four-legged position, lack of exercise and industrialized food as a problem.
