The protection against cell damage and the health-promoting effect is therefore particularly high for walnuts, the US scientist reported on the “24th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society ”.

Antioxidants prevent numerous diseases As part of his study, the University of Scranton researcher examined the antioxidant content of nine different types of nut. When comparing almonds, pecans, peanuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, cashew nuts, macadamia and walnuts, walnuts had the highest levels of antioxidants, said Joe Vinson. In addition, not only is the amount of antioxidants in the walnuts significantly higher, but they are also much more effective in binding free radicals, the US scientist emphasized. In view of his own research results, Joe Vinson comes to the conclusion that the consumption of seven walnuts a day is enough to benefit them considerably in terms of health.

Health-promoting effects of nuts not sufficiently known The US scientist denied the widespread concern that eating healthy but also high-calorie nuts increases the risk of obesity, and referred to a study from 2009 that had shown that the Consuming nuts reduces the risk of gaining weight and being overweight rather than increasing. Vinson attributed the fact that the antioxidants of the walnuts work particularly efficiently, because they are not roasted before consumption, so that all ingredients are preserved. Another advantage of the nuts as a whole is that they are lactose and gluten-free, the US researcher emphasized.
