Second health insurance company decides premium

Health insurance companies use surplus to pay premiums

Further health insurance companies ready to distribute premiums to their members. In addition to the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), the Hanseatische Krankenkasse (HKE) has now declared that it will use the current millions of euros to pay premiums to the insured.

Since the surplus of millions in statutory health insurance (GKV) has been in the industry and politicians, there has been a lot of debate about the use of the money. Federal Minister of Health Daniel Bahr (FDP) had repeatedly asked the health insurance companies to distribute the surpluses to the insured in the form of premiums. Last week, the Techniker Krankenkasse announced the first thing to consider a premium payment. Yesterday, the Hanseatic health insurance company followed suit and reported that almost all of the annual surplus would be distributed to its insured. As of May 1, 2013, all members of the HKE should receive a premium of 75 euros - regardless of how long they have been insured with the HKE, according to the health insurance company.

75 euros premium per member of the Hanseatische Krankenkasse. While the board of directors at the Techniker Krankenkasse has so far not proposed a clear amount of the bonuses to be paid, but has left this decision to the board of directors meeting in mid-October, those responsible at HKE go one step further. Here, too, the Board of Directors will not make a final decision on the bonus distribution until October, but the Finance Committee has already determined the proposed amount in its recommendation. Each of the approximately 300,000 HKE members is to receive 75 euros next May. Since this applies to all insured persons who have had health insurance with HKE by the end of April 2013, HKE apparently also hopes to gain a competitive advantage here, which could result in a significant increase in members in the coming months. Other statutory health insurance companies have already protested massively against the payment of premiums, since they believe that the funds could be used more effectively to further improve the range of services.
