The consumer protection ministry in Baden-Württemberg warns in a current message about the consumption of different types of cheese from Belgium. Dangerous listeria germs were found in random samples. Consumption is strongly discouraged.
According to information from the ministry, the manufacturer "Fromagerie Fermiète Het Dischhof" from Belgium had made two notices indicating that the Listrien bacterial strain was detected in different types of cheese. The affected cheese products are also offered in Germany at the service counter or for self-service. Consumers who have already purchased the following varieties should under no circumstances eat them, but should return them to the supermarket for a refund of the purchase price. Alternatively, the cheese can also be disposed of in the garbage.
The consumer warning applies to the following cheeses: "Keiems Bloempje natuur - Petite Fleur Nature", "Keiems Bloempje met kruiden - Petite Fleur aux herbes", "Keiems Bloempje", "Keiemse Witte", "Keiemnaer", "Keiemnaer 20+" and " Keiemtaler. ”Cheese that comes from self-service has the following identification: BE HP 695 EG.“ All the above-mentioned products of the manufacturer with different best-before dates are affected. ”The cheese had been transported to Baden-Württemberg in various ways. The authorities are currently reviewing these routes, and a recall from the trade has already been initiated.
Listeria can cause serious illnesses
If listeria bacteria are ingested through food consumption, listeriosis can be triggered. Cheese contaminated with listeria cannot be recognized by its taste, appearance or smell. Only a test in the laboratory can tell whether a cheese is contaminated. Listeria poses a high risk to people with poor physical constitution. Accordingly, toddlers, immunocompromised people and seniors are particularly at risk. Pregnant women also have a 12-fold increased risk of developing listeriosis. In the process, it can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths.
The course of the disease resembles flu. Infected people suffer from diarrhea, abdominal pain, body aches and later headaches, paralysis and drowsiness. Meningitis can also be favored. In some cases, the infectious disease was also fatal. (sb)
