Many would like to do more sport. Most Germans are well aware of the benefits of regular physical exercise, but "the life of many people in Germany is largely motionless," the TK said. The influx to be seen in the gyms and sports clubs is therefore pleasing, but reflects the reality only to a limited extent. According to the current TK movement study, many respondents would like to exercise more and do sports, but only a few take the step of implementation - not least because they also lack the time for this. According to the TK, the main obstacle remains "the inner bastard", which stands in the way of almost every second respondent and pulls them to the sofa and remote control instead of their sneakers.
Most respondents move less than an hour a day On behalf of the Techniker Krankenkasse, the polling institute Forsa conducted a representative survey “to find out how active people in Germany are in everyday life, work, leisure and vacation and what health consequences this has for it has, ”said the TK. According to Professor Manfred Güllner, managing director of Forsa, the result is terrifying. “Only four out of ten people in Germany are still on foot every day. This means that two-thirds don't even have one hour of exercise a day - including every trip to the copier, ”Güllner explained the extent of the lack of exercise.
Sports muffle in the majority Overall, the proportion of people who have no physical activity or those who do not exercise has increased from 45 percent to 52 percent since the last survey in 2007. More exercise options required at work Many people also find that work has an unfavorable effect on exercise behavior, according to one of the other results of the current exercise study. "Almost half of the working population already spends the working day sitting down - and even the small breaks in between are left behind by the second half of them in the hectic daily work routine," reports the TK. Here, too, two-thirds of those who sit around a lot would regret the lack of exercise "and would like to have a more eventful day-to-day job," explained Güllner. For example, 90 percent of the working population would like to have exercise opportunities in their company, but many do not find any here.
Entire population decouples from physical exercise According to the CEO of Techniker Krankenkasse, Dr. Jens Baas, it is "particularly worrying that an entire population seems to be decoupling from the movement - in all areas of life." The lack of exercise and sport would increasingly avoid any movement in everyday life. "Those who prefer to spend their free time in front of the screen also walk very little in everyday life and prefer to put their feet up on vacation," reports the TK. Ultimately, “movement for more and more people is becoming a foreign word,” Baas concludes. In the survey, one in three anti-athletes indicated that no one was doing sports in their area. "We do not believe that there is or has to be a sports cannon in everyone and do not demonize an evening of lazing around on the sofa," but the extent of the lack of exercise worries him considerably, explained Baas.
Whoever moves, wins According to the TK boss, the results of the current movement study once again make it clear that it has to be started where people “spend their everyday life: in companies, in schools, kindergartens and municipalities” in order to improve movement behavior in the long term improve the population.
