Ensure cooling BEFORE driving If the car gets really hot in summer, drivers take two countermeasures to ensure cooling: air conditioning on or window open. But creating a comfortable temperature inside the car while driving is not that easy, because the use of air conditioning should ideally start before driving - especially if the car has been in the sun for a long time. For example, the car should be well ventilated before driving off and the air conditioning should only be switched on after starting. Since every system loses some refrigerant over time, a check including topping up is necessary every one to two years, according to TÜV Süd - this inspection saves energy, because the air conditioning system only works optimally with sufficient refrigerant.
