Fasting enables spring cleaning from the inside

Fasting enables spring cleaning from the inside

What methods of fasting are there?

Fasting has been shown to be part of some religion and can be seen as a temporary element of life. In certain seasons it mostly serves as preparation for a religious festival, as is the case with Muslims during Ramadan. In Germany, traditional Lent begins after Ash Wednesday. People fast either in groups or alone. There are a lot of ways to cleanse your body from the inside out, and everyone practices it in a different way. Basically, however, all therapeutic fasting methods are about completely or partially deliberately avoiding foods such as meat or luxury foods such as alcohol and nicotine.

What methods are there? The so-called Buchinger therapeutic fasting was developed by the German doctor Dr. Otto Buchinger developed. With this fasting method, the body is fed a small amount of calories, vitamins and minerals with vegetable broths and juices. The intestine should be cleaned beforehand with enemas. "If you are fasting for the first time, you should join a group with a fasting director who has been medically examined," advises Andrea Chiappa from the German Fasting Academy in Oberursel.

Stimulating the body's self-healing powers Therapeutic fasting is a form of non-religiously motivated fasting and is usually used to “purify” or regenerate the body. In addition, the fasting people promise to activate their self-healing powers. Due to the low food intake, the body draws on its fat reserves during fasting and burns so-called slags. This detoxifies the body sustainably, according to the non-scientific theory. The aim is to strengthen the immune system and free it from typical symptoms such as rheumatism, listlessness and metabolic disorders.

Another way to deacidify or detoxify your body is with the so-called Schroth cure, in which a reduced-calorie, mostly basic diet without animal protein and fat is on the menu. This method, developed by the carter Johann Schroth, is part of numerous European spa clinics. The food consists mainly of cereal porridge with plums or apricots and steamed vegetables. To do this, you undergo sweat cures with moist wraps every day, which stimulate excretion. You only drink on certain days. The “dry days” are intended to create a suction force from the intermediate tissue into the blood, which pulls out the harmful substances accumulated in the body. They are then eliminated on drinking days. In addition to tea and water, even moderate amounts of wine are allowed.

Basically an intestinal rehabilitation The so-called F.-X.-Mayr cure is supposed to give the intestines new strength. "It is basically an intestinal cleansing and is supposed to relieve the gastrointestinal system," explains Chiappa. The bowel is "cleaned" with Glauber's salt every day. Drinking water and teas as well as special abdominal massages support the elimination. Correct chewing is at the heart of this method. The participants eat old rolls in the morning and at noon, which are chewed until they are riddled with saliva. In addition, milk is drunk. As a result, the food is largely digested in the mouth and the gastrointestinal tract is spared.

No matter which method you choose, the secret is good preparation. But with almost every fasting method, a ritual is an integral part. The bowel has to be cleaned and emptied. This can be achieved with the help of Glauber's salt, which cleans the innards within three to four hours. Another method of fasting is according to Hildegard von Bingen. It represents a gentle body cleansing. A large amount of liquid is supplied to the body. A so-called "fasting soup" consisting of spelled and seasonal vegetables is consumed daily. Participants may only drink fennel tea.

At least one hour of exercise every day The beginning of fasting is an enormous change for the body, which reacts to it with increased fatigue. Therefore, fasters should rest more in the first two days. After that, most feel more active again. From this point on, you should exercise for at least an hour every day. This keeps the muscles active and the circulation stable. Anyone who is healthy and does not have to take any prescription medication can fast. Anyone who decides to do this should definitely inform themselves correctly beforehand, because there are also diseases in which fasting can be counterproductive. As a rule, it can be said that if the intestine is regularly cleaned and detoxified by healthy fasting, not only will the feeling of well-being be reduced and wellbeing will increase, but also chronic ailments such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, allergies, asthma, rheumatism will be alleviated and sometimes can even be cured.
